    Do I love a good dark sky…
I am not going to bore you with the history of the Johannesburg City Hall, for that click this link.
I am still learning to use digital blending, very counter intuitive but I like the results.
The alignment is not perfect but I am relatively happy with the results.

Randomly chosen by fellow Joburg Photowalker Diana Lynne Sanderson from my Blue collection.

Somewhere on the Olifantsbos Shipwreck Trail my wife, Geraldine, knelt and started shooting kelp on the beach, it was drizzling and we nearly cancelled the photowalk.
This is how it starts, vision, I have never been able to see like she does, I doubt I ever will.

Being part of a group of photographers has its perks, certainly in this country, if only for the safety aspect.
Joburg Photowalkers did a photo-drive around the Eastrand, that would be the eastern part of what most know as Johannesburg thought that would be incorrect as by the time you enter this area you have left the Johannesburg city limits.

Here is a map of the trip

The Germiston Fire Station, seen here from the back, is apparently going to be converted into a museum.
A new state of the art station is being built right next to it.

Photo 72 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

I am back after a sudden unplanned absence, a work project took all of my spare time and that was that, it is not over but I am starting to post again, probably not daily just yet but it will be more regular.
Today I got a few HDR related questions and a few hatred comments on HDR, I also saw that the HDR war is back on in social media.
When used for the “right” purpose with the “right” outcome in mind, HDR is a great tool to achieve a result that cannot be achieved in any other ways.
The Haunted Bathroom is such a case, this is a 7 photo HDR (maybe an overkill) plus blending and a filter for good measure.
My question to you is: Does it look wrong? If so why?

Yet another panoramic view from Le Piton de la Fournaise.
We were concerned about the accumulation of clouds but these tend to evaporate quickly over the intense heat of the Plaine des Osmondes.
The black solidified lava flows heat up and literally cause an updraft.
Unfortunately the volcano was very quiet whilst we were there, so I could not shoot an active lava flow.

  • A calm day at Cap Méchant

When I got to Cap Méchant two things crossed my mind, keep the camera dry and how am I going to photograph this? Oh and keep the camera dry, obviously.
The awesome power of the Indian Ocean is difficult to capture as a photograph, the movement of the water difficult to show, the only way I could think of capturing it was using video.

From the trek up the volcano in the horizon sits le Pas de Bellecombe at 2311m in altitude, the plain below “Enclos du Piton de la Fournaise” a hundred meters below. You can also clearly see the white markings of the trail and cooled lava flows on either side.
Not your average hike I can promise you.

Reunion Island topology is hard to explain try looking at this for reference.
