This is the southern part of Von Brandis Street in Johannesburg, on the right is Union’s SAMWU’s (South African Municipal Workers Union) headquarters on the left a relatively nice looking building and at the bottom 2 newly renovated buildings. this is one of the typical faces of Johannesburg the derelict, the old, the renovated and the new.
Edit: On the left is Johannesburg Central Fire Station building. Up ahead to the right is Chrysler House (from friend Mark Straw)

Photo 30 of 356 of the 2015 Collection

The Johannesburg Post office was once a mighty building in the center of town opened on the 26 of January 1897.
Now a relic from time past, pillaged to near extinction, a sore sight in the middle of a city and dead in front of City Hall.
A ruin that could be rejuvenated, no one seems to care.

Walking around old buildings is always a treat for me, I tend to “see” what the apocalypse could be like.
But I also see the rejuvenation possibilities and that always puts me in a good mood.
This is a bathroom renovation in one of these buildings, no much use today but just imagine…

It make me think of a barn, nor a bar but the view from the Good Luck Bar at The Sheds @ 1 Fox ain’t bad.

Belgian waffles, bears, pizzas, burgers, fresh fruit juice, hand picked veggies, wine, meats all sorts and a hell of a good ambiance with friendly people.
The Sheds @ 1 Fox was once an explosive shed for mining companies, a place of fear and danger, it is now proof that we can take any structure or building and turn it into a cool place to be at.
Well done to those that took the risk, urban renewal is a reality in Johannesburg and this is another proof it can be done.

This is another before from The Shed @ 1 Fox, I am going back this weekend.
It’s a room with a bed and a view, I suspect that it has been transformed into a kitchen or a stall.
It’s also one that has succumbed to my new “quick” HDR workflow, I may just share it with you soon.

I hope to go next week and shoot it again and do an after. They completed and opened the food market about 2 weeks ago, this was before the renovations were completed.
This is a typical urban renewal initiative where an old mine explosive shed that was due to be destroyed was saved to revive the inner city.
I am not entirely happy with the roof window colour cast but the rays are great, I am getting grip with my new HDR post-process, this does not (nor was it meant to) look too HDR like, yet I could not have the results without it.
